Why haven't I heard of this before?

Dutch engineers and designers developed the product in the early 2000s. It was introduced to Architects/material specifiers soon after and demonstrated its durability in the process. With over 53 million square feet installed worldwide, it has broad acceptance in many parts of the world among designers. However, in the North American market, it has been a slow creep to acceptance because of cheap plastics at the mid-tear price points and tropical hardwoods at the higher tier price points.

As sustainability rises in importance among property owners' requirements, more installers are searching for products like this to offer alternates and separate themselves. Additionally, expect to see this product more often in the bid lists as supply chains become more robust in the United States. For example, you will find this material in the Simpson Strong-Tie Deck Visualizer auto cad program as one example of that progress.  Check out the technology comparison page for a deep dive.
